The Kashmir Files, by Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, is a film based on the untold brutalities and exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits during Kashmir Insurgency that awaited to be heard from last 32 years.
The film picturizes how Pushkar Nath Pandit (Anupam Kher) had to flee away from his home overnight along with his widowed daughter-in-law and two grandsons after his son was shot dead inside a big drum filled with rice. The painstaking scene of blood-soaked rice fed to Pushkar Nath Ji’s daughter-in-law by the terrorist gave goosebumps to the audience leaving them in a mixed emotion of anger with tears.
The initial part of the film showed the horrendous and unspeakable torture of the Kashmiri children, women, and men. How they left every single thing back home and were forced to leave on one chilly night and take shelter in tents with scanty food, water, amidst the poisonous snakes and insects. There was a continuous echo of the slogan – “Raliv, Galiv, ya Chaliv”- which means “Convert, Die, or Run”, without any support from the then Government.
The second part shows how a young student was ignorant about Kashmir, his past, the brutalities and was systematically brainwashed by his professor with a different story which mismatched completely until he realized the truth and the professor’s false agendas with the “Azadi” slogans.
No Promotion Of The Kasmir Files
The Kashmir Files was initially screened in 500 screens. However, with its increased demands, currently the film has been screened in more than 4000 screens. This film is not a film anymore but a reality which every Indian must watch to at least realise how the nation was kept in dark from these massacres. Several questions are bound to trigger – “Why was there no justice to the Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to be homeless? – “How much pain a child had to undergo to see his/her mother being undressed and mocked?” – “How helpless a father or husband was who could not keep his family in safe hands? Everything just destroyed based on hate crime.
With its impeccable performance across the nation and beyond, and a significant boost in the theatres with each day, many states in India have declared the film tax-free. Not only the film has garnered appreciation from audiences, but it has also done outstanding in the box office with a collection of more than 180 crores in just two weeks. The Kashmir Files is a must-watch as it has united people in the realization of the horrendous time undergone by the Kashmiri Pandits and has become a milestone in India’s cinematic journey.
